The Lords of Montfoort — History & Facts

Four Dutch knights kneel before the Virgin. The first three died in 1345 in the Battle of Warns against the Frisians; the fourth was badly wounded. Behind them stands Saint George, their patron saint.

The coats of arms above them show that they belong to the De Rover family of Montfoort. The painting is a ‘commemorative panel’ to honour their memory.
