Cabinet — History & Facts

The inlaid lacquerwork panels of this cabinet came from an early 17th-century Japanese chest with a domed lid. That kind of chest was an expensive rarity; its shape apparently fell out of fashion, which would explain why such a precious object was sawn into pieces and its lacquer reused to decorate this stylish cabinet.
