Henri Fantin-Latour

French, 1836–1904

Henri Fantin-Latour (1836–1904) was a French painter and lithographer born in Grenoble. He studied art with his father and later in Paris, where he attended the École des Beaux-Arts and copied old masters at the Louvre. Fantin-Latour became recognized for his detailed still lifes of flowers and fruits, especially in England, and for his group portraits of artists and writers in Paris. Although he associated with artists linked to Impressionism, his own style remained traditional.
