Chest — History & Facts
The front has reliefs with the biblical story of David and Goliath. On the short sides are the virtues Hope (left) and Justice (right). They were meant to inspire the bridal couple for whom the cassone was made to lead a virtuous life.
Presumably there were once two chests, each with a coat of arms: one for the bride’s family, one for the groom’s.
