Francisco de Goya

Spanish, 1746–1828

Francisco de Goya (1746–1828) was a Spanish painter and printmaker associated with romanticism. Born in Fuendetodos, Aragon, he studied painting from a young age and later became a court painter to the Spanish Crown. His early work included portraits of aristocracy and tapestry designs, while his later art reflected the turmoil of his era and became darker after an illness left him deaf in 1793. Goya spent his final years in Bordeaux after leaving Spain in 1824.
