Charles Conder was an English painter and printmaker, known for his contributions to the Australian art scene in the late 19th century. He is recognized for his vibrant landscapes and depictions of Australian life, which reflect a blend of Impressionism and Post-Impressionism. Conder was born on 24 October 1868 in London, England. He studied at the Lambeth School of Art and later moved to Australia in 1888, where he became an influential figure in the Heidelberg School, a movement that sought to capture the Australian landscape and experience. His major works include 'The Going', 'A Holiday at Mentone', and 'The Bridge'. Conder's style is characterized by bold colors and a focus on light, which helped to establish a distinctly Australian aesthetic in art. He returned to England in 1890, where he continued to paint until his death on 9 February 1909 in London.
