Aelbert Bouts was a Dutch painter born in 1452 in Haarlem, Netherlands. He is recognized as a significant figure in the Northern Renaissance and is known for his detailed and vivid religious paintings. Bouts trained under the influence of the early Netherlandish painters, likely including his father, who was also an artist. He became a master in the Guild of Saint Luke in 1474. His works often depict biblical scenes with a focus on realism and emotion, characterized by meticulous attention to detail and vibrant color palettes. Major works include 'The Last Supper' and 'The Virgin and Child with Saints.' Bouts' style is marked by a blend of Gothic and early Renaissance elements, and he is considered a precursor to later Dutch masters.
