Albin Egger Lienz

Austrian, 1868–1926

Albin Egger-Lienz (1868–1926) was an Austrian painter recognized for his rustic genre and historical subjects. Born near Lienz in Tyrol, he first trained with his father and later studied in Munich, where he was influenced by artists such as Franz Defregger and Jean-François Millet. He depicted peasant life and scenes from the Tyrolean Rebellion, and his style evolved toward monumental, heroic figures with strong outlines and earthy tones. Egger-Lienz worked in Vienna and Tyrol, joined the Vienna Secession, served as a war painter in 1916, and later exhibited his works in Italy and Austria.
