John Warwick Smith

English, 1749–1831

John Warwick Smith (1749–1831) was a British watercolour landscape painter and illustrator. Born near Carlisle, he studied art through a family connection and became known for his topographical drawings. Patronage enabled him to travel in Italy, where he developed a more colourful watercolour style and produced many Italian views. Smith illustrated several books and exhibited with the Watercolour Society after moving to London in 1807.
