Dutch, 1620–1691
Aelbert Jacobszoon Cuyp (20 October 1620 – 15 November 1691) was a Dutch painter of the Dutch Golden Age, known mainly for his landscapes. Born and died in Dordrecht, he was the most prominent member of a family of artists and learned from his father, Jacob Gerritszoon Cuyp, with whom he often collaborated. Cuyp was especially recognized for his large paintings of Dutch riversides in golden morning or afternoon light. He married Cornelia Bosman in 1658, after which he largely ceased painting, and became a deacon of the reformed church.
