Swiss, 1810–1864
Alexandre Calame (1810–1864) was a Swiss landscape painter linked to the Düsseldorf School. Born in Arabie, then part of Corsier-sur-Vevey, he initially worked in a bank to support his family before turning to art. Calame became known for his paintings of the Swiss Alps, forests, and Alpine scenes, and his works were exhibited in cities such as Paris and Berlin. He also produced lithograph series of Alpine landscapes that were widely distributed in France, England, and Germany.
