David Young Cameron

Scottish, 1865–1945

Sir David Young Cameron (1865–1945) was a Scottish artist known for his paintings and especially his etchings of landscapes and townscapes. He studied at art schools in Glasgow and Edinburgh, gaining international recognition for his etchings by the 1890s and producing popular series such as "The Clyde Set" and "The North Italian Set." Cameron focused on architectural subjects and Scottish landscapes, using techniques like drypoint to create strong contrasts of light and dark. His style reflected the influence of the Glasgow Boys and the Hague School, and after 1900 he concentrated on landscapes and architecture in both painting and printmaking.
