Belgian, 1879–1950
Armand Apol (1879–1950) was a Belgian painter, etcher, and lithographer associated with Post-Impressionism. He studied at the Art Academy of Brussels from 1891 to 1901 and became a member of the artists' society Le Sillon in 1901. During World War I, Apol was held as a prisoner of war in Germany, later living for a period in Switzerland, where he exhibited in Geneva in 1918. He created landscapes, city scenes, and seascapes in an impressionist-realist manner, working in various Belgian towns and coastal areas, and produced both original prints and copies after other artists.
