English, 1818–1910
Francis Seymour Haden (1818–1910) was an English surgeon and original etcher who played a central role in the Etching Revival in Britain. He founded the Society of Painter-Etchers, later the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers, and served as its first president for thirty years. Haden was known for landscape prints, often using drypoint techniques, and emphasized minimalism in his work. He also collected and studied Rembrandt's prints.
