Dutch, 1640–1679
Abraham Mignon (1640–1679) was a still life painter born in Frankfurt, who became active in the Dutch Republic, particularly in Utrecht. He specialized in flower pieces, fruit still lifes, scenes set in forests or grottoes, depictions of game and fish, and garland paintings. Mignon trained under Jacob Marrel and worked in the studio of Jan Davidszoon de Heem, whose influence is evident in his art. His paintings were collected by European elites in the 17th and 18th centuries, and he served as a deacon in the Walloon Church of Utrecht.
