Eugène Boudin

French, 1824–1898

Eugène Louis Boudin (1824–1898) was a French painter known for his marine scenes and landscapes painted outdoors. Born in Honfleur, he worked in his father's shop in Le Havre before turning to art full-time at age 22. Boudin painted along the Normandy coast and in Brittany, and his work was influenced by Dutch 17th-century masters. He participated in the First Impressionist Exhibition in 1874, but did not see himself as an innovator.
