Jacob Cornelisz van Oostsanen

Dutch, 1472–1533

Jacob Cornelisz van Oostsanen (before 1470–1533) was a painter and woodcut designer active in Amsterdam when it was a flourishing provincial town. He came from a family of painters originating from Oostzaan, near Amsterdam. His early work reflected the influence of Haarlem painting, and his style evolved from late Gothic traditions to a simpler, more elongated manner later in life. Cornelisz produced around 200 woodcuts and 27 paintings, and his commissions included work for Egmond Abbey.
